The "Waldau" in Bonn's city forest is one of the most popular excursion destinations for Bonn families, especially on beautiful summer weekends. With a large playground, wildlife enclosure, biodiversity trail and farm garden in the immediate vicinity, the Haus der Natur invites nature lovers of all ages to explore. The Waldau restaurant next to the Haus der Natur is a great place to stop for a bite to eat.

The Waldau can be easily reached by bus number 602, and there are parking spaces for bicycles.

Cottage garden

The farm garden at the Haus der Natur is completely organic. Neither traps nor poisons are used in the garden. Here you can see how cucumbers and tomatoes grow and what pumpkins look like before they turn orange. There is also a herb bed with marjoram, thyme and many other garden herbs. Children and young people can see how the vegetables that will later be on their plates are grown.

The farm garden is also colorful: sunflowers, roses and hydrangeas grow here. Wild bees and wild wasps fly in and out of the insect hotel and the wild boars in the wildlife enclosure a few meters away are happy about the forage maize.

Playground

With balancing ropes, hanging ropes, knotted ropes, wobble and tube nets as well as triangular and dangle nets, the playground offers the opportunity to gain climbing experience at heights of up to three meters. Different levels of difficulty on the climbing course invite children of all ages to play. For small children and children with physical disabilities, there are also low entry points that are clearly marked with yellow posts.

The new attraction is part of a multi-stage development concept for the Waldau children's playground by the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery. The plan includes the gradual renovation of the forest playground without having to close it completely, so that Waldau, as a popular leisure facility, can offer children the opportunity to play in nature at all times.
