House of nature

Friends of the House of Nature

The Friends' Association for the House of Nature was founded in 1999. The Haus der Natur was thus reopened just in time for the 20th anniversary of the Friends' Association.

From the very beginning, the purpose of the association was to promote the "Haus der Natur", until 2019 still with the addition "Forest Information Center".

The association pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes. "This includes in particular the natural history education and upbringing of children, young people and adults through non-material and financial support of the house, as well as through the procurement of funds for the above-mentioned purpose" (excerpt from the association's statutes).

The Friends' Association for the House of Nature thus makes parts of the permanent and temporary exhibition in the House of Nature possible, procures nature education material, takes care of some of the design of the outdoor area and supports the staff of the house in all matters.

Many nature and forest education institutions and individuals, as well as foresters, hunters and citizens interested in nature have come together within the Friends' Association, because the Haus der Natur as a central environmental education center is close to all their hearts. All members work on a voluntary basis.

The annual membership fee is 20 euros, members are informed about the concerns of the house and can participate in the annual general meeting.

Projects 2021

Between October 13 and December 5, 2021, visitors were able to visit the exhibition "Zugemüllt - Oder geht's auch anders?", which was created in cooperation between the Haus der Natur and bonnorange AöR. The association was able to support the realization of the exhibition by purchasing books, wooden figures and animal specimens. Visitors thus had the opportunity to become aware of the dangers to wildlife posed by litter and ideas for avoiding litter during excursions into nature.

On October 2, 2021, the first Käpt'n Book Family Day took place at the Haus der Natur. Among other things, Bärbel Oftring, a well-known non-fiction author, read from her book "Ich bau dir ein Haus, kleine Wildbiene". At the same time, the children had the opportunity to build their own wild bee hotel outside the Haus der Natur. Many children were happy to take advantage of this opportunity. The Friends were happy to provide the necessary nesting tubes, tins and pieces of wood.
